Cover Your Flush

The district uses best practices to maintain sewer systems and lessen the risk of a blockage. This includes video and physical inspections, the use of root treatment chemicals, and regular cleaning. But it is up to the homeowner to protect their sewer line.

The sewer service (lateral) is owned and maintained by homeowners, including the connection to the district’s main as depicted below. All maintenance and repairs within the lateral are the homeowner’s responsibility, even the portion of the pipe within the street. If a backup occurs within your sewer service lateral, a contractor must be contacted by the owner to restore sewer service. All damages are the homeowner’s responsibility. Many homeowner’s insurance policies contain an exclusion for sewer backup damages. Coverage is often available but must be requested as an addition to the policy. The district advises homeowners to discuss sewer backup coverage with their insurance agent.

Homeowner resposibility as described in the article.

Trash All Wipes

There is no such thing as a flushable wipe. Flushing wipes and other products can clog your home plumbing, causing sewage backups and expensive repairs. Flushing these products can also harm sewer and wastewater treatment systems, clogging equipment and leading to environmental damage and higher sewer rates.

Only flush pee, poo, and toilet paper.

No wipes in the pipes, only toilet paper down the toilet.

Don’t Let this Happen to You!

If you are experiencing a sewer backup, contact the district at 303-979-2333. We can assist in determining if it is a district mainline or customer service line backup.

If the backup was caused by blockage in a district owned sewer main, district staff will restore sewer service and the affected areas.
